L'histoire se concentre sur Klaus, un hybride (loup garou et vampire) faisant partie de la première dynastie de vampires. Sa famille est également appelée The Originals, d'où le nom de la série. Lui, son frère Elijah et sa soeur Rebecca s'installent en Nouvelle-Orléans, où ils ont vécu il y a très longtemps. Klaus veut récupérer son royaume, dirigé par Marcel à présent, un ancien protégé de Klaus.
The story is centered on Klaus, an hybrid ( a werewolf and a vampire) being part of the first vampire dynasty. His family is also known as The Originals, hence the name of the tv show. He, his brother Elijah and his sister Rebecca move in to New Orleans, where they used to live a long time ago. Klaus wants to take back his kingdom, headed now by Marcel, an old protégé of Klaus.
